The Humor-Blogs.com Blog
The Satirical Muvver Speaks Out fared ok with our reviewers. The title confused some -- I'm not sure how many figured out that muvver = mother, and as for satirical... well, it really isn't. Sardonic maybe, but not satirical. And here's another pet peeve of mine, while I'm talking about blog titles: What is up with the blog title not matching the blog url? I don't mean to pick on Hayley, as lots of blogs do this, but Blogger urls are free. Pick a name and go with it. How the heck do you expect people to remember your blog url? At least Hayley avoided using the terms "musing," "ruminations" and "ponderings." Anyway, sorry for the digression. On with the review: | Category | Score | Points | | Content | 4.95 | 35/70 | | Writing | 6.19 | 3/5 | | Web Design | 5.14 | 3/5 | | Intangibles | 5.62 | 3/5 | | Read Regularly | 3.33 | 3/10 | | Frequency | 8 | 4/5 | | Total |
| 51 | Percentile Rank: 28Some quotes from the reviewers: I can't help but being biased towards British people...but I am because I just love their vernacular. It's bloody fantastic! Great blog!
Only in Britian needs to jump the pond, some of the humor may be dry and getting lost with my American accent. Found myself scanning after two posts. Adam and Eve bit is typical men bashing --hahaha, God and Eve have their joke about Adam being made second. All Crumpet and no tee-hee.
Nice to see a non-American blog (not that American blogs are bad!), but the author needs to use less slang as non-UK readers may not understand the jargon. A really negative aspect is the side bar that travels for miles, and miles, and miles down the page. Some of the info there is a bit useless as well. The author should actually incorporate this info into her posts!
A very pleasant blog. Nothing to write home about, but pleasant, nonetheless. I see this as less "satirical" and more "slice of British family life" fare. Not funny "ha ha", but fun. That said, it's not quite my cup of tea.
This blogger is a good writer and some of the posts have good humor in them so I'd read again defintely, although the colours are a bit painful and something a little easier on the eyes might be better.
Real Life, which is bloody funnier than anything. Well written, some tongue in cheek, dark humour.
Layout could be smartened up a tad.
Very British, which makes sense, because she is... Good stuff all around.
I didn't really find this blog all that funny. It's cute at times, quirky, but not laugh-out-loud or really even crack a smile. It's seems that it's just a blog detailing a person's life with a couple lines of supposed humor thrown in. Good if you want to keep people updated on your mishaps, bad if you're aiming for something like a funny blog. And I'm a fan of British humor too but I just found it lacking. Also, the layout, mainly the color, is very off-putting. The purple with black writing can be a bit hard to read at times and just overall I didn't find the site aestetically pleasing. To help, I would recommend greater descriptions with cheeky additives as opposed to rambling out the story. I just find the humor extraordinarily subtle, too subtle in many cases.
Some of the posts are amusing, but the lack of commas irks me. Still, I'll come back; there's something fun about this blog.
Her sidebar is out of control! That being said, I found the content there much more entertaining than her actual posts. I like her overall energy and she seems like a fun person but her posts aren't focused and seem more "this is what I ate for breakfast today" than I like. But she's new at it and I hope she'll sharpen up her writing and get the feel for what is bloggable in time.
The purple & green template for this site makes me feel like I'm reading the incredible Hulk's own personal blog. Sadly, I am not. While the whinings of an occasionally funny British hausfrau may amuse some, it doesn't work for me. She writes well, etc., but the content isn't interesting and the humor just isn't there.
This is a nice personal blog with a lot of warmth. I wasn't sure what a "Muvver" was at first, but I managed to figure out that it actually means "Mother" - cute.
In spite of the title, the blog doesn't have very much satire. A lot of interesting stories of daily life and some sarcasm and wit. Nothing that caused me to laugh out loud, but I'd still recommend giving it a look. It seems like whenever a British blog gets reviewed, people comment on how maybe the "dry" British humor doesn't translate across the Atlantic. On the other hand, there are plenty of American blogs that suffer from the "cute but not LOL funny" syndrome. I wish I could blame a cultural barrier when my jokes don't work. In any case, 51 is a solid score. Good work, Hayley. I hope you find the reviewers' comments helpful.
