Our reviewers were mostly positive about
Copacetic City, though several of them weren't sure it really qualified as a humor blog. As one reviewer wrote, " What this blog lacked in actual make-me-laugh humor, it gained in charm. How can you not get drawn in by a man who has named his benign brain tumor Spike? His writing style was warm and easy and I liked him right away. His blog seemed to be a charming place to come back to." An impressive 50% of the reviewers were charmed enough by Jim's adventures with his cat Spaz and his brain tumor Spike to come back to Copacetic City regularly.
A few reviewers were turned off by the cat blogging, and some of them weren't sure what to make of the brain tumor "device." Several reviewers found the requests for donations off-putting, while others mentioned feeling bad about giving a bad review to a guy with a brain tumor. Overall, however, Spike was a hit. The only other definite negative was the bland and hard-to-read template. Something tells me that was Spike's idea.

"Original, short, and sweet. Well set up punchlines."
"I have to say I first thought the whole 'brain tumor' thing was a hook, but then I learned it (the tumor) had a name (Spike) and I found myself intrigued. I like the fact that this writer, while clearly in distress, has the ability to laugh at his own plight."
"Jim's writing is clear and clean, but I didn't find it to be very funny. I know the guy mentions that he has a brain tumor, it's repeated very often, in fact, but I can't read someone's blog that asks for donations for themselves without it being some kind of joke or something."
I enjoyed this blog. I wouldn't say it's a humor blog but some of the posts were quite funny."
"I really wanted to give this guy the sympathy points. It takes some guts to name your brain tumor and write about it... When this guy hits his "dark humor" stride, it could be very funny...but who can expect the poor guy to actually do that consistently?"
"When he's not writing about his stupid f---ing cat or garage-sales his words are actually well used. But it's not funny. And I feel really bad about saying that about a guy with a brain tumor."
"I enjoyed it, and I'd read it again, but not because it's a humor blog."
"That's some great content for only blogging for two months. His very first post is pretty damn funny and I've never read about such human/feline cooperation."
"A blog that isn't trying to be funny. I really had a good time reading Jim's adventures. After a few blog entries I knew I'd be coming back for more. I didn't just smile; I chuckled out loud."
"I didn't find anything to grab me. This is one of those instances where I felt like I was invading someone's privacy, like reading a diary with a lock on it.... I wouldn't classify this particular blog as a "funny" blog. I also have a personal disdain for bloggers who (even if they do it passively) solicit donations or 'tips.'"
"I like his commonsense attitude and tendency towards pithy posts. Also, his cat is freaking adorable."
"I like this guy. He has a low-key writing style that's fun to read, if not laugh-out-loud funny. The device (if that's what it is) of Spike the brain tumor makes the posts interesting."
Good job, Jim. Looks like you've picked up a few new readers. If you switch to an easier-to-read template and maybe cut back on the cat blogging, you could probably pick up quite a few more.
